In Hawaiian, Makana translates to “gift”—a word that beautifully captures the essence of what we believe this journey represents. Whether you are embarking on the path of third-party reproduction or seeking greater emotional well-being, each step is part of a profoundly personal and meaningful process. It is a gift: the gift of insight, the gift of growth, and, in many cases, the gift of life itself. These gifts shape not only individual lives and relationships but ripple forward to influence future generations.

Aloha from Our Founders.
Mahalo for visiting Makana Health. Kanani Aiu, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and proud native of Kailua, Oʻahu, brings the spirit of aloha and a deep connection to family into everything she does. These values helped inspire the name Makana, meaning “gift.” Alongside fellow therapist Candace Murray, Kanani co-founded Makana Health to provide trusted, compassionate support for individuals and families navigating the complexities of third-party reproduction. With shared values and complementary strengths, they’ve created a space where surrogates, intended parents, and donors feel supported every step of the way.
Together, they deepen their expertise through active research and professional involvement, including memberships in the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), the Mental Health Professional Group (MHPG), and the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).
